Cory McAbee started out as bandleader of the electric American rock outfit The Billy Nayer Show. The band soon turned their weird music into an even weirder image, where McAbee took the helm and directed, wrote, composed, sang, and acted in their successful feature debut, the western sci-fi musical; The American Astronaut (2001). McAbee was commissioned by the Sundance Film Festival to create one of the first five films designed exclusively for mobile phones. The result was a short film entitled Reno (2007). Following this, McAbee made Stingray Sam, both a feature film as well as a six part mini-series for mobile distribution. It is visually designed and formatted for all size screens. It continues in the same vein as AA, where we get outrageous characters, comedy, great song numbers, animations, innovative space settings and a hilarious bit of satire. McAbee has been the guest speaker on mobile film at such functions as the 3GSMA Convention in Barcelona, 21st Century Global Summit Conference in Oxford England, World 50 Dinner in NYC, the 2009 Sundance Film Festival. He is featured in the documentary film and book, Mobile Planet/Connecting The World. He has lectured at Universities throughout the US and Europe and has taught a Masters Course on filmmaking in Lisbon, Portugal. He will speak about mobile phones as a new distribution format for film. stingraysam.com |
